Baby on Board

We have a baby on board! Mum was in hospital for four days and we didn't see much of dad either. He came back to feed us and took off again as soon as our bowls were down. We were so glad to have them both home again. Here we are waiting for dad on the dock.
We weren't really sure what the baby was at first. And then it moved! And then it made a noise! I went over for a sniff. Mum told me the baby is called Joshua. Here I am helping to put Joshua to bed.
I really like Joshua but Pepe is still undecided...
To celebrate our new arrival I thought I'd get mum and dad a present. I waited until we had visitors (so it would be an extra special gift). For some reason nobody seemed to appreciate the bird I brought in. "Carlos, drop the bird", my dad said. Since I am a good cat, I did as I was told, but of course the bird went flying off around the cabin causing everyone to duck and making poor baby Joshua cry. Luckily it flew outside after a couple of minutes, by which time nobody was speaking to me.
A few days later I tried another approach. This time I got mum and dad a nice cockroach, but once again nobody seemed to like it. In fact mum FREAKED!!! Dad wasn't fast enough to kill the cockroach before it disappeared and mum was very upset. I was really unpopular for a while but I redeemed myself the next day by hunting the cockroach down so dad could finally get rid of it.
I think I'll leave the presents for now and just concentrate on helping out around the home. Here I am giving mum moral support while she feeds our new baby boy.

A Job Well Done

As you can see I've been very busy helping my dad with our boat renovations. Unfortunately he wasn't very impressed with my contribution to the varnish work...
I'm back in the good books now though.
Here is the finished cabin. All we need now is for mum to have the baby...
I've found myself a great little spot to watch over him when he arrives.

Carlos' Christmas

My mum is having a baby. My brother Pepe is a bit jealous right now, but I think it's great and I know she loves us very much.
Dad is in charge of renovating the forward cabin for the new baby. Here we are right at the start of the project. I can tell he's going to need my help.
We had a short break for Christmas at Abel Point Marina. Here I made friends with a dog called Lulu (well sort of).
There wasn't much time for festivities - Dad and I have lots of work to do. Here I am supervising the refitting of portlights.
Mum says we'd better get it done in time....

A visit to the vet

Once a year we have to go to the vet for our annual vaccinations. Last week we went to see the vet at Orchid Valley in the Whitsundays. Our new vet was a very nice man but having someone check you over is still not much fun.

We were given the all-clear health-wise and Mum bought us a new hidey-house for being so good. Here I am relaxing in it after my ordeal.

Fun in the sun

It's so unfair. We went to Hamilton Island and I didn't get to see anything because we were in a marina and I had to stay on the boat, down below. My dad said he would make it up to me...

He took us to Gulnare Inlet on the south coast of nearby Whitsunday Island. Here I got a ride in the dinghy.

Pretty soon after we arrived we had our first visitor...

Pepe didn't like the cockatoo so I agreed to stand guard and keep him off the boat.

Next my dad said he would catch us a fish.

He wanted to catch a 'GT' or Giant Trevally. He did catch a GT but it was a Giant Toadfish!

Toadfish are apparently poisonous so I went to hang out beside the galley window again in the hopes of getting something to eat. I figured I'd be in for a long wait...

Whenever my mum and dad go out in the dinghy they leave me in charge. I am the captain after all...

As you can see I'm not quite so good with the navigation. In fact my dad says Pepe and I are useless on watch...

Sometimes I get seasick when we're sailing, but when the weather is good I'm fine. In fact my mum says I'm a very good ship's cat.

Bye Bye Bundaberg

My world is moving again. For a long time now (almost two birthdays) we have actually been in one place. It's the longest time my family have stayed still since I was born. My dad says we are gypsies.
This is my mum and my brother Pepe. We are all living in Australia on a boat called Brilliant II.

Until recently Brilliant II was tied up to a dock in the Bundaberg Port Marina. I liked it there. I had a piece of dry land to play on and people could come down to the gate and stroke me. There was only one visitor I didn't like...

As you can see I have settled in quite quickly to being back on the high seas. This is a photo of me relaxing at Pancake Creek, which is just north of Bundaberg.

Unfortunately the sea air makes you very hungry. This window is right next to our galley and if I hang around here long enough my dad might throw some food my way.

Of course if he doesn't I'll just help myself to his spaghetti bolognese.

Apart from eating and sleeping, Pepe and I like to check out the places we end up in each day. We especially like to watch birds and fish. We are headed to some islands on the Great Barrier Reef so I am hoping there will be lots for us to see.
